To honour the Victoria Cross Winner Darban Singh Negi, the Youth Foundation has rejuvenated a School in Karanprayag which was built in during British-era. The school was built by the Britishers to honour the gallantry of Negi, a 39th Garhwal Rifles Soldier, who had gallantly fought in World War I in 1914. Youth Foundation starting a residential training academy for the locals who want to joins the army.
The School was located in Negi’s Native Village in Karanprayag. For decades, the school building had been reckless until early this year when the Youth Foundation Decided to start a campaign to reconstruct the structure and start an enthusiastic residential camp for aspirants.
The residential camp is located near to Pindar river bank and has a huge ground where local youngsters are now doing morning drills. The school building has large 28 rooms which are used as a hostel for students, staff and trainers.
Col Ajay Kothiyal, Founder of Youth Foundation, said that the Training has started for the aspirants for the upcoming Mass recruitment drive. He also said that the reconstruction and repair of the school were done by District administration by using MLA Funds.
According to Amod Pawar, a functionary, in the first batch of the academy, most of the youngsters are preparing for the Kumaon Regiment recruitment drive which will be scheduled in September this year. He also said that, each batch would stay in the academy for 3 months before participating in different exams.
