The Government of Uttarakhand has launched the ‘Samarth’ e-governance portal, which will enable students to register for higher education after 12th grade. The registration process has commenced for graduate admissions in four government universities, all government-aided colleges, and private colleges affiliated with them. The Higher Education Minister, Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, inaugurated the portal on Wednesday.
Under the new education policy, students can now apply for admission to all higher educational institutions in the state by registering on the ‘Samarth’ portal. Each student will have the opportunity to choose more than ten options and select their desired course accordingly. The admission process will be based on the student’s merit, similar to the system followed by Delhi University.
Students can apply for admission to multiple colleges through the portal. The admission process covers four universities, 119 government colleges, 21 private colleges, and all colleges affiliated with them. Apart from using computers, students will also have the option to apply through mobile devices. The application fee has been set at Rs 50. The minister also mentioned that soon, the portal will offer employment-oriented courses across all campuses in the state.
The establishment of 25 model degree colleges is currently underway, with the completion of degree colleges in every block. The search for land has been completed in four blocks, while it continues in others. Minister advised students from areas with internet connectivity issues to submit offline applications to their respective colleges. The colleges will then upload the applications on the Samarth portal at the college level.
central government has set a target to increase the number of students pursuing higher education after 12th to 50 percent by 2030. Currently, more than 46 percent of youth in Uttarakhand are enrolled in higher education after 12th grade. He highlighted that over 52 percent of tribal students, more than 47 percent of female students, and over 42 percent of scheduled caste students are pursuing higher education, which surpasses the figures of Tamil Nadu.
To register on the Samarth portal, visit the website and click on “New Registration.” Fill in your name, date of birth, email, mobile number, and create a password. Upon registration, a username and password will be generated. Proceed to the profile section and upload your details, including your photo, signature, and relevant documents. Submit the application and pay the fees online. Finally, complete and submit your application form.
