1. PM Modi undertakes official tour to four African Countries – Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania and Kenya during July 7-11, 2016. South African President, for extending support to India’s bid for NSG membership. In Nairobi, India and Kenya signed seven agreements in different areas including defence in security, health and avoidance of double Taxation.
2. India’s first indigenous fighterjet Tejas was finally inducted into the IAF on July 1, 2016. A Tejas aircraft multi-role supersonic fighter plane soared into the sky at a ceremony preceded by inter faith prayers. The name Tejas was given by the former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Designed by Areonautical Development Agency, the aircraft produced by HAL. The IAF Chief described the induction of Tejas as a milestone.
3. The Hockey Lagend Mohammad Shahid died on July 20, 2016 in a Gurgaon hospital after batttling kidney and liver problems. Shahid, was one of the greatest player of Hockey, during his part in team, India clinched gold medal in the 1980 Moscow Olympics. He was born on April 14, 1960 in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. He also Captained India during the 1985-86 season, recived the Arjuna Award in 1981 and was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1986.
4. Pema Khandu becomes the new Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy who has an additional charge of Arunachal Pradesh, administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr Pema Khandu, son of Late Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu, in Itanagar on July 17, 2016. On the other side, Thongdok elected as speaker of Arunanchal Pradesh Assembly. He is the 11th speaker of Arunanchal Pradesh Assembly.
5. The Union Cabinet approved a new major port in Tamil Nadu on July 5, 2016. This port will be set up at Enayam near Colachel. This project will cost around Rs 27,000 crore and will be undertaken in three phase. A special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will be formed for development of port with initial equity contribution from three major port trusts in Tamil Nadu-V.O. Chidambaram Port Trust and Kamarajar Port Ltd.
6. Rohit Khandelwal was declared the winner of the coveted Mr. World Contest for 2016 on July 19, 2016 at the finale held at the Southport Theatre and Convention Center in Southport, UK. He is the first Indian to win this honour. He recived $50,000 as prize money for being the winner of the contest which was participated by 47 contestants across the globe.
7. The first paperless e-court in the Hydrabad High Court was inaugurated on July 17 to kick-start a new era of digital judicature in the Hydrabad High Court. Justice P. Naveen Rao, one of the member of Computer Committee of the High Court has been made the president of the e-court. The e-court became operational on July 18.
8. MP govt sets up India’s First Department of Happiness, Madhya Pradesh has laid out an ambitious plan to create that perfact state of mind for the people, becoming the first state in the country to have separate department for happiness.
9. On Sustainable Development Index India Ranks 110th out of 149 nation. India which has 1.2 billion people and is expected to grow by another 300 million within the next couple of decades.
10. Saurabh Ghosal defeated Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu 11-7,7-11, 3-11, 11-8, 14-12 in the summit clash on July 17, 2016 at the Otter’s club in Mumbai to retain the Senior National Squash Men’s Singles title. It was his 11th National Squash title triumph.
1. Worls Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim on July 18, 2016 announced the appointment of Paul Romer as World Bank Chief Economist with effect from September 2016. Romer is currently a professor at New York University and Director of NYU’s Marron Institute of Urban Management.
2. The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) Summit 2016 was organised on July 8-9, 2016 in Warsaw, Poland. The summit was attended by Heads of State and Government of NATO members including US President Barak Obama, Polish President Andrzej Duda and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. NATO member countries discussed numerous issues such as Ukraine situation, Afghan problem.
3. A herrific terrorist attack took place in France on July 14, 2016. A French Tunisian man driving a truck rammed through Bastille Day revellers in Nice. 84 people were killed and hundreds of them were injured. The attack took place on a day which marked the 1789 revolutionary storming of Bastille prison in Paris. It was an attack on liberty by fanatics who despised human rights.
4. Sushil Karki took charge as the first woman Chief Justice of Nepal’s Supreme Court on July 11, 2016, after her name was endorsed by a parliamentary panel. Nepal also got Ram Baran Yadav as the first women speaker and Maoist lawmaker Onsari Gharti Magar as the first women Head of State.

6. British Military will lift ban on women serving in combat roles this year, the defence ministry said on July 8, 2016 in what Prime MinisterDavid Cameron hailed as a ‘major step’. It may be mentioned that India is also mulling over the proposal of allowing women in combat role in the military.
7. An ex-aide of former Chinese President Hu Jintao has been jailed for life for corruption, obtaining state secrets and abuse of power, official media reported on July 4, 2016. Ling Jihua pleaded guilty and said he would not appeal, in reference to the verdict of the First Intermediate People’s Court in Tianjin. Chinese courts are controlled by the ruling communist party, which expelled Ling – once Hu’s chief of staff – from its rank last year.
8. Franco-Swiss architect Le Corbusier’s works – Capital Complex, Chandigarh, Khanchendzonga National Park in Sikkim and Nalanda Mahavihara in Bihar were declared the new World Heritage sites in India in the UNESCO. Total 17 sites across 7 countries got the World Heritage Status in Istanbul meet.
9. Chinese military unveils weapons post SCS verdict by International Court, including long range missiles, amid calls by its top official to be combat ready following a landmark verdict by an UN-backed tribunal that struck down China’s historical rights in the South China Sea.
10. Nasa’s Juno spacecraft entered the planet Jupiter’s orbit on July 4, 2016 after traversing crores of miles distance about 1.7 billion miles. It took 5 yrs for it to enter the orbit.
