The women of the country will be able to be appointed as permanent commission officers after taking training in NDA and Naval Academy. Welcoming the Centre’s decision, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice MM Sundresh said that it is very good that the government and the defence chiefs have taken this decision on their own.
Hearing this matter, the bench of Justice SK Kaul of the Supreme Court expressed great happiness. The court says it wants the defence forces to take a more proactive approach towards gender equality, instead of the court directing them to do so. The Supreme Court will next hear the matter on September 22. Earlier, during the hearing on August 17, the court had given permission to women to appear in the National Defence Academy examination. This order has come into effect from the NDA exam to be held on September 5 this year.
