A career as a pilot is envy of many. Mostly, pilots work with commercial airlines but there are also some who work for organisations and corporations that have their own charted aircraft. Helicopter pilots are used in police patrolling, in supplying offshore oil platforms, defence etc.

Basic Requirement For Pilot

Aspirant are expected to be physically fit, possession of good eyesight and colour vision , mental and physical alertness, well-balanced and ready to respond to quickly changing situations are among many qualities that are required. One must be a master of unflappable, confident, self assured personality with considerable technical skill.

Educational Qualification To Be A Pilot

The educational requirement is passing of Class 10+2, with Physics and Maths as main subjects with at least 50% marks and minimum 18 years of age. The minimum height should be 5 feet and eyesight 6/6.The pilot training course spreads over duration of 2 years and fees vary from Rs. 18-25 lakhs depending on the training institute. However, one should verify that the flying school is approved by the civil aviation authority in that country. Candidates should be medically fit of class II status as certified by a DGCA empanelled doctor. Another option for young aspirants is, Private Helicopter Pilot Licence training that commence after clearing class X and 16½ years of age.

Admission & Selection Process

Admission to these flying schools are based on an all-India written test, Pilot Aptitude Test (WOMBAT) and an interview. Sound knowledge of the concepts of physics, maths and English upto 10+2 standard is required along with general awareness of current affairs and normal reasoning. Class I medical certificate is required before joining the course
