The Union Cabinet Ministry on Wednesday approved to increase the basic pay of Gramin Daak Sevaks three times to 14,500 rupees per month. This increase in salary will be effective from January 1, 2016. The payment of the outstanding wages of these Gramin Daak Sevaks will be done in one installment till January 1, 2016 till implementation. Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha gave this information to the reporters after the cabinet meeting.
Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha said that the salary of the GDS was not sufficient to meet his expenses effectively and the decision of increasing the salary of GDS will change their lives. For this change in salary allowances, the burden of Rs. 1257.75 crores will be borne during the year 2018-19. It estimates the non-recurring expenditure of Rs 860.95 crore and recurring expenditure of Rs 396.80 crore.
He said that the Gramin Daak Sevak (GDS), which was getting Rs 2,295 per month, would get a salary of Rs 10,000. Along with that, whose salary was Rs 2,745, it would be Rs 12,000. Similarly, the Daak Sevaks who were getting 4,115 rupees would get a salary of Rs 14,500 per month. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sinha also said that the face of Indian post is now changing. We have created the Directorate General of Parcel. India Post Payments Bank is about to start. In the upcoming days, a separate insurance company will come under the postal department. GDS will become our carrier. Under this step, where the basic salary of GDS has increased nearly three times, but overall salary will increase by 56 percent.
For the first time, the Cabinet has implemented the risk and difficulty allowance of Rs. 500 per month for GDS. Nearly 2.6 lakh employees works in the rural post offices in the country. Gramin Daak Sevak has been on strike since the implementation of the recommendations of the Committee formed under the leadership of Kamlesh Chandra. He was requested by the Minister that he should return to work considering the Union Cabinet’s decision.
